Your whistle-stop guide to the latest Premier League arrivals
Name: Pablo Osvaldo
Signed from: Roma
Did you know?
Osvaldo has twice been in trouble for punching team-mates. He floored Nicola Mingazzini in pre-season training during his Bologna days, then thumped Roma’s Erik Lamela in the face after a defeat in 2011.
What’s the deal?
Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino has swooped to sign a striker who once played for him at Espanyol. The south-coast club beat Spurs to Osvaldo’s signing.
The club’s new record signing has signed a four-year deal at St Mary’s. He has 79 goals in 232 senior appearances in Argentina, Spain and Italy.
Despite being born in Buenos Aires as a fourth-generation immigrant, Osvaldo plays his international football for Italy by virtue of his great-grandfather being born there before he moved to Argentina in the 19th century.
What do they say?
“Osvaldo is a great player. I worked with him at Espanyol, so I know what he can do.”
Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino
“I play better when I’m happy.”
