Chelsea join Man Utd in the race for Sheffield United’s Harry Maguire

Chelsea are the latest team to express an interest in Sheffield United defender Harry Maguire.

We reported earlier this week that Manchester United had been scouting the 20-year-old for months and were ready to make a move in January.

If United see Maguire as a long-term replacement for Nemanja Vidic or Rio Ferdinand, it seems Chelsea think they have spotted the new John Terry.

The Metro reports that the Blues will open negotiations with the Blades over the coming weeks with a view to signing the 6ft 4in defender in January.

The Blues scouts have urged Jose Mourinho to make a £5m for Maguire.

Blades boss David Weir said: “I don’t know anything about the interest in Harry, but it is great news for our players to be linked with such big clubs.

“Harry has a lot of attributes, for a young lad he has played a lot of games, and I would not be surprised if clubs were looking at him. But we don’t want to lose him.”
