Liverpool want Arsenal target Abel Hernandez
Liverpool are plotting a January swoop that would see Palermo striker Abel Hernandez link-up with Uruguay international team-mate Luis Suarez at Anfield.
The Daily Express claims the Reds are keen to sign Hernandez, linked with a move to Arsenal in the summer, in a £4m deal.
The 23-year-old is known to be unhappy in Italy, particularly since Palermo now find themselves in Serie B, and Brendan Rodgers will hope his close friendship with Suarez will convince him to move to Anfield.
The deal could have the extra benefit of giving Suarez another reason to stay put.
Much like Suarez, Hernandez asked for a transfer over the summer, but a move didn’t materialise.
At the time, he said: “The club and the coach told me that I could leave if the right offer was made and I think that has now arrived.
“They know what I want and they know what they promised me. I don’t want to lose the chance of playing at the World Cup next summer.
“I think playing in Serie A is beautiful, but the desire to be at World Cup 2014 is what has pushed me to ask for a transfer.”
The player believes performing on a bigger stage will increase his chances of being named in Uruguay’ World Cup squad.
