Out-of-favour Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe could be a January transfer target for Newcastle.
The England international has found himself down the Spurs pecking order following the arrival of Roberto Soldado from Valencia.
According to the Mail on Sunday, the 30-year-old is not prepared to bide his time on the bench during a World Cup season.
He had been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane over the summer as he aims to claim a place in Roy Hodgson’s squad. That never materialised, with only Championship side QPR mounting any serious interest.
But that could change when the transfer window reopens. The Magpies are reportedly keen to provide him with an exit route and regular starts.
