West Ham are weighing up a move for former Schalke striker Cirprian Marica as they seek to boost their attacking options.

Marica is currently without a club since leaving the German club at the end of last season. But he was on target for Romania against Hungary yesterday evening.

The Hammers had invited recently released forward Carlton Cole back to the club but he will not be rejoining them after reportedly failing his medical.

With the transfer window now closed, Sam Allardyce must find a free agent to sign or rely on the frequently injured Andy Carroll, Modibo Maiga and Ricardo Vaz Te until January.

Marica, aged 27, was tipped to join Arsenal earlier this summer – mainly by his agent, admittedly.

He has also played for Stuttgart and Shakhtar Donetsk.
