West Ham centre-back Winston Reid is reportedly a January transfer target for Arsenal.
The Gunners are keen to strengthen their defensive options, not least because out-of-favour club captain Thomas Vermaelen is rumoured to want a move away from the Emirates when the transfer window reopens.
Reid, aged 25, is believed to be one of top targets.
The New Zealand international had been one of the Hammers unsung heroes for some time. Only recently have pundits, and now seemingly opposition scouts, started to take note of his consistent performances at the heart of Sam Allardyce’s defence.
His commanding displays last season saw him named as the club’s player of the year.
Media reports today link Gunners boss Arsene Wenger with a £6m bid for Reid this January.
The move has got the approval of Wenger’s chief scout Steve Rowley, who has prepared extensive reports on the former Midtylland player.
Reid is under contract at Upton Park until 2015.
