Arsenal are planning to battle north London rivals Tottenham for the signing of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
Villa boss Paul Lambert recently confirmed that Spurs enquired about Benteke over the summer and Andre Villas Boas’ side have been linked with rekindling their interest in January.
Now the Daily Mail reports that the Gunners will also be in the running for the Belgium international.
Arsene Wenger recognises that he cannot rely on Nicklas Bendtner as the only alternative to Olivier Giroud and is preparing to strengthen his striking option.
With his start to the new campaign proving that the 22-year-old is not just a one-season wonder, Villa believe they can command a £28m for their star forward. He would have been available for around £18m in the last transfer window.
