New Derby County boss Steve McClaren says wonderkid Will Hughes’ departure is inevitable.
The 18-year-old is being tracked by several Premier League sides, including Liverpool, Manchester United and Arsenal, and McClaren says Hughes will become too good to stay at Pride Park.
Former England manager McClaren, in charge of the Rams for just two games so far, says the club has to work hard to help Hughes reach his potential during his remaining time at the club, then line-up a new generation of talent.
He said: “Our job is to make sure he makes it.
“Eventually he will be too good. What we need behind that is players coming through to replace him.”
Liverpool are the early favourites to sign the England Under-21 international, who has been touted as the new Steven Gerrard.
