Manuel Pellegrini refused to single out goalkeeper Joe Hart for blame as Manchester City lost 1-3 at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.
The England keeper was at fault for the first and last Bayern goal, but Pellegrini said the whole team was below par.
He said: “I will talk about the team, not individual players.
“I think that we play today really bad. It’s not the team we see every Sunday here in the Premier League, and that was the worst thing.
“We didn’t have possession of the ball, at least we tried to have a bit more. I know Bayern Munich always has a lot of possession, but it was not a good day for us.”
