Arsenal and Chelsea are monitoring Saido Berahino’s contract situation after the England Under-21 starlet failed to agree a new deal with West Brom.
The Baggies made it clear that they were expecting their new star to sign a new contract that would increase his wages from £850-a-week to £7,000-a-week very soon. But he has yet to put pen to paper.
With talks now stalled, there is a chance that Steve Clarke could decide to offload the Burundi-born striker in January.
The 20-year-old would be able to leave for just £300,000 in compensation next summer at the end of his current contract, although the Baggies would use their option to extend his contract by one year rather than risk that.
The Gunners and the Blues are among the frontrunners of the host of clubs who would like to sign Berahino.
The youngster might feel that a move to a top club would help his chances of making a late charge for Roy Hodgson’s England squad for next summer’s World Cup.
