Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has joked that he will skive training today to avoid any 40th birthday pranks his team-mates might have in store for him.
The United player-coach turns 40 today and fears what some of the younger United players might have planned.
He joked: “I’m not coming in on Friday.
“I’m going to stay in bed, I think, just in case!”
Asked by the Daily Mirror whether he would be glad to put the ‘Giggs turns 40’ hype behind him, he said: “Yeah, I will.
“It’s not really a big milestone for me. Obviously, it is, but I try not to think about it as much and I don’t think about it, if I’m honest, until guys like you remind me!”
If he makes another league appearance this season, the Welshman will become just the fourth outfield player to play in the Premier League past the age of 40. He will join Kevin Phillips, Teddy Sheringham and Gordon Strachan in that select club.
