Napoli manager Rafa Benitez is planning a January swoop for Tottenham midfielder Mousa Dembele.
Italian newspaper Il Mattino claims that Dembele is Benitez’s top target as he seeks to bolster his midfield.
The 26-year-old is no longer a guaranteed starter at White Hart Lane following the club’s influx of summer signings.
The Belgium international might be persuaded to move on in search of a regular starting spot ahead of next summer’s World Cup.
Dembele moved to Spurs from Fulham in a £15m deal in 2012. Despite being a key member of the team during his debut season with Andre Villas Boas’ side, he has struggled for playing time in recent weeks.
However, it is very unlikely that Tottenham would allow him to leave unless he agitated for a transfer.
Napoli are also said to be looking at Liverpool’s Lucas Leiva and Barcelona’s Javier Mascherano as other midfield options.
