Spurs winger Erik Lamela wants to leave the club on loan to guarantee his place at next summer’s World Cup.
The £30m has failed to make an impression in the Premier League since joining from Roma in the summer.
And now he wants to temporarily quit White Hart Lane to ensure he is involved in Argentina’s squad for Brazil 2014, the Daily Mirror reports.
The 21-year-old is said to have asked for a loan move before Andre Villas Boas was sacked.
He is keen to play every week, which is not currently the case at Spurs, where he has made just three Premier League starts so far this season.
Having reportedly expressed his frustrations at his lack of action, Lamela is now a target for top European sides including Atletico Madrid and Inter Milan.
But Spurs are likely to rebuff their advances and hope to keep their marquee signing at the club.
