Spurs consider sending Erik Lamela on loan to Atletico Madrid

Erik Lamela could be sent to high-flying Spanish side Atletico Madrid for the second half of the season as he struggled to adapt to life in the Premier League.

The Argentinian winger was expected to replace Gareth Bale in the Tottenham side, but has failed to have any impact since he joined from Roma for £25.8m in the summer.

Clubcall reports that Lamela will now be allowed to make a loan move away from White Hart Lane in an effort to rebuild his confidence.

The 21-year-old has started just two Premier League games this season. With the player’s spirit crushed some what by his difficult start to life in London, he would be allowed to join Atletico and make a fresh start at Spurs next season.

The loan move would boost Lamela’s hopes of cementing a place in Argentina’s World Cup squad.

Tottenham have not yet given up hope that the youngster will come good and are not believed to be interested in selling him at this stage.

How would sending him on a loan spell help him to adjust to PL football and the rest of the team?

  • Chozzer

Just play him more…. not playing won’t help him adjust. 2 record signings sat on the bench every week?? I am behind AVB, but this is either poor management or poor buying. He won’t ‘come good’ if he doesn’t play.

  • Bertibus

    And you believe this tripe?

  • Murph

Playing him out of his preferred position is hardly ideal is it Mr AVB? Sending him to Spain is not the answer, playing him in the first team is!

  • Mark Hilditch

absolutely spot on. cant adjust to life in London in Madrid or to playing for Tottenham. Play him week in week out from the start of games and sub him off if it isn’t working not the other way around

Clubcall report? What a crap source, you should be embarrassed to cite it.

I dont think AVB wrote the above article idiot.

Utter garbage! People that either fabricate or regurgitate this drivel have no business writing any kind of a blog on football. AVB is handling what is a difficult transition for the young lad pretty well. Apart from playing him against Man City away (which was a mistake), he has been played in hand-selected games, like the home EL game against Sheriff and the EPL game against Fulham to build up his confidence. He played well in both those matches and I am sure will be used tomorrow against Anzhi and most likely against West Ham in the League Cup quarter final. He is a real talent and is going absolutely nowhere, end of story.

totally agree. I made a similiar post, but it looks like the moderator is not allowing it. A close friend of an insider who can see my computer screen has described my post as somewhat “personal”.

Lamela has to play the occasional big game. and we have to be patient. he justified his price tag for what he did at roma, and because of his age.

Of course not… Got nothing behind it at all. Lazy, silly report.
