Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has refused to comment on suggestions that he is one of the main contenders to become the new Tottenham manager.
The Argentine’s impressive performance as Saints boss has led to him being linked with the Spurs vacancy. But he would not be drawn on those rumours in his press conference today.
He said: “I never talk about assumptions or possible rumours – I’ve never done so throughout my entire career.
“We are fully focused and we are fully focused on the goal ahead – which is, precisely, the game against Tottenham and that’s 100 per cent what our focus is on.”
Pochettino gave his best wishes to outgoing Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas.
He coninued: “I am always very respectful with decisions that people make at other clubs. It’s clear to me that a fellow colleague sacked is never a good thing and I want to wish Andre Villas Boas all the best for the future.
“But it is also clear that these things can happen in football and that’s the bitter side of this game that no one wants to go through but that can happen.”
