Grant Holt is set for a return to the Premier League as Aston Villa prepare to make their first signing of the January transfer window.
Paul Lambert is reportedly close to securing a reunion with his former Norwich City striker, who is currently at Championship side Wigan.
The Villa boss wants to add more competition for Christian Benteke and is set to bring 32-year-old Holt in on a short-term loan deal.
He told the Birmingham Mail: “Holt? I had him at Norwich and he did all right for me at Norwich, but I don’t know too much more.
“Holty was fantastic for me at Norwich, he’s a proper guy. I’ve just been told that the rumours are everywhere, but until something’s concrete, I’ll see.
“If he comes he comes, but he might not come, he might come. He did brilliantly for me at Norwich and I’ll see what happens.
“There are things going on at the moment. We are trying to get people in.”
Holt has two goals in 21 games since joining the Latics in the summer.
