Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is expected in Italy this evening to finalise a move to AC Milan.
The Serie A side confirmed that the Ghana international is due to arrive with them to complete a move tonight. His agent held lengthy talks with Milan yesterday and it sounds like an agreement has been reached over his contract.
In a statement on their official website, Milan said: “Just turned 31 and with a CV including domestic and Champions League wins as well as victory with the Ghana national side, Michael Essien is expected in the city this evening.”
Despite a late attempt from West Ham to land Essien, it seems likely he will go to Italy.
A favourite of Jose Mourinho – the man he calls “daddy” – during the Special One’s first stint at Stamford Bridge and at Real Madrid, Essien has found himself restricted to just five Premier League games so far this season.
And Mourinho has made it clear he could offer Essien no guarantees over playing time.
Speaking earlier this month, he said: “I offer nobody – not Michael, not nobody (guaranteed playing time).
“I understand that players think about national team, the World Cup and playing regularly, but my players have to think of the team before the players.
“Michael knows that perfectly.”
