GIF It: Cheick Tiote’s controversially disallowed screamer (Newcastle vs Man City)

Newcastle thought they had bagged a spectacular equaliser in today’s game against Manchester City when Cheick Tiote fired in this range effort.

But the strike was controversially ruled out by the officials.

Yoan Gouffran was in an offside position when the shot was hit, but he wasn’t in goalkeeper Joe Hart’s line of sight and didn’t touch the ball on its way into the net.

That is offsides. Since the shot went at him Hart had to play not only the ball but he also had to worry about the offside man headed it to the other side of the goal, or settling it and shooting. So in fact it was offside even though he never touched the ball he did in fact affect the play. Which in turn since he was offside it was a good call.

This was pure bullshit the goal should have been allowed

  • heyheyheyshit

    You are talking shit.

  • Confused

I thought you had to touch the ball to be offside? Also why would a keeper need to worry about an offside person scoring a ‘goal’?

  • Rjalon

The offline attackr did intervene in the play; had the attacker stayed static then the ball had touch him, so it was correct to rule out the goal

    Your a fag

  • Heyheyhey:)

You actually don’t always have to touch the ball to be offside. Y’all learn the rules of the game.

  • Cenius

You don’t have to touch the ball to be offsides. If you are in an offsides position and make it so the goalie has to play you also you are offsides. Because he moved instead of standing there he made himself offsides.

  • Expert

That should have been allowed although he was offside Gouffran didnt interfere with the goalkeeper
