Man Utd consider bid for Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye
Manchester United are weighing up a bid for Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, according to reports.
The Guardian claims that the champions are considering an offer for the France international, who is valued at £25m by the Magpies.
United boss David Moyes is keen to strengthen his midfield during the current transfer window. The £37m arrival of playmaker Juan Mata adds some extra guile in the final third, but Cabaye can also play a deeper midfield role.
Moyes and the Old Trafford hierarchy consider Cabaye to worth less than the £25m wanted by Newcastle, but they have already demonstrated that they will pay over the odds to get the right players in during the current transfer window.
The former Everton boss scouted Bayern Munich’s Toni Kroos on Friday evening, but Cabaye would come with the added advantage of being eligible to play in the Champions League for United this season.
Cabaye, aged 28, has been in excellent form so far this season. He is also wanted by Arsenal, who had a £10m offer rejected in August.
Newcastle also turned down a £14m from Paris Saint Germain this weekend.
