Newcastle have turned down a £14m for midfielder Yohan Cabaye from French champions Paris Saint Germain.
The big-spending Ligue 1 side have been linked with a move for Cabaye for some time, but this is the first time that they have made a firm offer.
Cabaye, aged 28, has been in sensational form for the Magpies this season, despite starting the campaign by refusing to play over the club’s decision to reject a £10m bid from Arsenal in August.
The Press Association reports that PSG have now improved on the offer made by the Gunners in the last transfer window, but Newcastle are still holding out for a fee of more than £20m.
He joined from Lille in a £4.3m deal in 2011.
PSG boss Laurent Blanc publicly stated that he wants to sign a midfielder during the current transfer window. Roma’s Miralem Pjanic is believed to be his other main target.
