Atletico Madrid will move for Tottenham keeper Hugo Lloris if on-loan Chelsea youngster Thibaut Courtois returns to his parent club.
Talks are believed to be ongoing behind-the-scenes between Courtois, aged 21, and the Blues. The Belgium international has been at the Vicente Calderon for the past three seasons and has made it clear that he doesn’t want to come back to Stamford Bridge unless he is going to be Jose Mourinho’s no.1.
Atletico, currently flying in La Liga under Diego Simeone, want France captain Lloris if they do lose Courtois, claims the Daily Mirror.
Lloris has been linked with moves to Arsenal and Paris Saint Germain in recent days amid suggestions that he wants to quit White Hart Lane if Tim Sherwood’s side fail to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
Atletico currently look nailed-on to be in the Champions League, which makes them a viable option for Lloris.
But reports in the Daily Star suggest that Chelsea are happy for Courtois to stay with the Spanish side, as long as they can use him as a makeweight in a deal to bring striker 25-year-old Diego Costa to west London.
It is claimed that Atletico are keen to keep Courtois and have already tabled two offers to Chelsea. One deal reportedly involves them paying £16m plus midfielder Koke, while the other offer is for £8m plus Costa.
