Former Liverpool defender Markus Babbel is predicting victory for his old side Bayern Munich in their Champions League tie against Arsenal – because the Gunners always mess up big games.
The 41-year-old thinks Bayern will just need to keep their concentration in order to assure their progress in the tournament because Arsene Wenger’s side are like to choke against the reigning European champions.
Asked if Arsenal are strong than when they met Bayern last season, Babbel replied: “No. And they’ve got a lot of injuries. If Bayern concentrate, they won’t have any problems.
“You see it in the Premier League: Arsenal always mess things up in big games.”
Compatriots Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski came in for individual criticism.
Babbel said Ozil “still needs to work on his physicality”, and said of Podolski: “I didn’t think he’d make it in England, to be honest, he was always far too lazy at Bayern and Cologne.”
Former Germany international Babbel played 170 games for Bayern before moving to Anfield in 2000.
