Joel Campbell wants Arsenal return after Man Utd heroics
Arsenal striker Joel Campbell, who scored a wonder goal against Manchester United last night, says he is ready to play for the Gunners next season.
The 21-year-old fired a curling left-footed effort past David De Gea to give Olympiakos a 2-0 first-leg lead in their Champions League tie against United.
Campbell believes he is now ready to make an impression in the Premier League once his loan spell in Greece has ended.
Speaking before the United game, he said: “As soon as Arsenal came, I wanted to join them and I believe I am ready to play for Arsenal next season.
“I know I have the capacity to play there. I am only waiting for the opportunity. With hard work I know I can get there.
“United showed an interest in me when I was moving to Europe but I have been an Arsenal fan since I was a child and that’s why I chose them.”
The Costa Rica international signed for Arsenal as a teenager in 2011, but at that stage hadn’t played enough games for his country to qualify for a work permit.
Having spent successive seasons on loan at French side Lorient, Real Betis in Spain and now Olympiakos, Campbell would be eligible for a work permit if Arsene Wenger wants to draft him into his squad for next season.
