Man Utd website omits Robin Van Persie from ‘potential captains’ list amid Arsenal rumours

Manchester United striker Robin Van Persie was a notable absentee from a list of potential captains published on the club’s official website.

The champions are in need of a new skipper for next season after it was confirmed that Nemanja vidic will leave the club in the summer.

The United website decided to run the rule over some possible candidates, but Van Persie – linked with a return to former club Arsenal in recent weeks – did not make the cut.

Candidates including Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Jonny Evans, Darren Fletcher and even David De Gea all featured, but there was no place for the Dutchman.

Van Persie has reportedly become unsettled at Old Trafford since David Moyes took charge last summer.

His absence from the list, despite being among the club’s star performers, is perhaps an indication that club insiders are uncertain about his future at United.

He better not leave. When things get rocky at the club don’t jump ship a season later.

that would just be pathetic of him. but never the less, as bad a shape as we’re in this club doesnt need individuals to be great. we just need A TEAM!

Typical Rooney gets an undeserved bloated contract on the basis that he’s a petulant child but carries and English passport, the club and Moyes pander to everything he wants, it will be the undoing of the club. And now its further unsettling his teammates as he could be the undeserved captain. Make no mistake I don’t think anyone WANTS to jump ship but we are being turned into Manchester Rooney and the others aren’t happy.

I agree with ManUtdFan84. I don’t like how we are cowtowing to Rooney’s every demand. This is the same player who comes in overweight and underprepared every single season. What kind of professional gets sent to fat camp in the middle of a season?

Then there are the incidents such as urinating on a golf course, urinating in the street and the multiple times he’s been caught smoking and drinking.

Has he played well this season? He’s played better than last but he’s still not finding the net like he should. RVP has been out injured for a while, has been left isolated in all the games, hasn’t looked anything like he did last season and he’s still out scored him.

Captain material? No chance. Give it to someone who really wants it. There are a lack of leaders at United, of that there is no doubt. Of that list, Jones, if he becomes a regular starter (he should) at CB (definitely should) then it’s him, he’s a natural leader, has already captained Blackburn and he has the desire and enthusiasm to inspire others.

It can’t be Fletcher, he’s not good enough to be a starter and he’s past his best years, it can’t be Evans, he barely talks as it is(!) and as much as I love De Gea, I’m not a fan of keepers being Captains, for me it’s CB’s and CM’s who should get it.

I think he went to ManU to play for Ferguson and may feel a bit betrayed. Then again, he left Arsenal after 16 months of uninjured play after the club carried him mostly injured for three years. Loyal he is not.
