Erik Lamela’s hopes of making more of an impression in the second half of his debut season in the Premier League appear to have been thwarted by a new injury setback.
The Tottenham winger has failed to settle since his big-money move from Roma last season.
Recently the 21-year-old has been out of action with a thigh strain, and has now picked up a back injury during his recovery. The Argentina international could now be set for an extended spell on the sidelines.
Speaking ahead of Spurs’ clash with Newcastle, manager Tim Sherwood said: “Erik had a thigh strain, he’s over compensated and now it’s referred to his back.
“He might be out for a while as well.”
Sherwood also revealed that midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson could be back in action soon, but defender Vlad Chirchies is likely to be out for some time with a back problem.
