Chelsea veteran Ashley Cole and Southampton full-back Luke Shaw have both taken to Twitter to deny that they are the current England international who is set to be outed as gay by a tabloid newspaper this weekend.

The Sun on Sunday will reportedly run a story this weekend revealing that a member of Roy Hodgson’s squad is homosexual, making the subject the first openly gay England international.

After a flurry of rumours on social media sites, Cole and Shaw both denied that they will be at the centre of the story.

Cole claimed he was “strictly chicks only”.

Shaw also wrote a tweet distancing himself from the story, but he has since deleted it.

He said: “It’s not me chill out guys!”

If the footballer in question is set to be “outed” by the gutter press, then he is hardly openly gay is he? And neither will there ever be a truly openly gay current footballer if the press think the sexuality of footballers is worthy of a witchhunt and week’s build up. The Sun is the second worst ‘newspaper’ in the UK, no self-respecting football fan, or human being, should buy it – the paper or what they say.
