Manchester United manager David Moyes was in Germany last night to watch Freiburg’s game against Hertha Berlin.
Young Freiburg centre-back Matthias Ginter was the subject of his scouting mission, according to reports.
The 20-year-old is rated at £10m and is considered one of Germany’s hottest young defensive talents.
He has previously been linked with Bayern Munich and Arsenal.
Moyes is in the market for two new central defenders, with Nemanja Vidic leaving in the summer and Rio Ferdinand unlikely to be offered a new deal.
Ginter has aspects of both United veterans in his game. A strong, uncompromising tackler, he also has the pace to get back to make tackles and is comfortable bringing the ball out of defence.
United do not have a fixture this weekend because of Manchester City’s involvement in the Capital One Cup final, so it would be no surprise to see Moyes pop up at various other matches today and tomorrow as he continues to assess potential summer signings.
