Manchester United plan to challenge Arsenal and Bayern Munich for the summer signing of Julian Draxler, according to reports.
David Moyes’ side will make a £37m swoop for the 20-year-old midfielder at the end of the season, according to reports in the Sunday Star and the Sunday People.
The Gunners came close to signing the Schalke wonderkid during the January transfer window and are expected to launch a fresh attempt to capture him in the summer.
It always seemed likely that they would face strong competition from European champions Bayern at that stage. But now United are also planning to swoop for Germany international.
Moyes dispatched scouts to watch Schalke’s game against Augsburg on Friday night. They saw the youngster grab an assist and have a goal disallowed during an eye-catching performance.
A £37m release clause in Draxler’s contract comes into effect at the end of the current campaign, which means Schalke would be powerless to stop the deal if United were to bid at that level.
But Bayern probably remain the favourites to sign him at this stage.
