Manchester United have overtaken Chelsea in the race to sign Southampton left-back Luke Shaw.

The 18-year-old is set to join United this summer in a deal worth £27m, according to the Sunday People.

Chelsea have long been favourites to sign the boyhood Blues fan, but it now appears they could be pipped by David Moyes.

The reports claim sources close to the youngster say that he could now be heading to Old Trafford.

That would be a major blow for manager Jose Mourinho who is thought to see the England international as Ashley Cole’s long-term successor.

Shaw, who is currently vying with Cole for a place in England’s World Cup squad, will reportedly be offered wages of £85,000-a-week if he completes he move to United.

He has also been linked with Manchester City, but United and Chelsea have also seemed to be the most likely destinations if he leaves St Mary’s this summer.

Just more Mirror BS, like he was going to Chelsea in January, they should be sued. Even if he were willing why would Saints agree a fee ahead of the World Cup.
