Real Madrid have reportedly stolen a march on Manchester United by opening talks with Juventus over possible transfers for midfield duo Paul Pogba and Arturo Vidal.

The Juve pair are considered two of the world’s best midfielders at the moment and United have been heavily linked with attempts to sign them.

But Sky Italia reports that Juve and Real representatives met last night to discuss a possible deal.

The Serie A giants’ general manager Beppe Marrotta visited the Bernabeu ahead of last night’s friendly between Italy and Spain, but he would not confirm the reason for the meeting.

He said: “Today I did visit Real Madrid.

“But even if I had spoken about Pogba and Vidal I wouldn’t tell you.”

United are keen to spend big in the summer and are particularly eager to improve their midfield. But face an uphill battle to secure their top targets given that they are very unlikely to qualify for the Champions League.

The suggestions that Real are already working on a deal for two of his preferred options is another blow for manager David Moyes.
