Liverpool are planning to rival Manchester United for the signing of Juventus midfielder Arturo Vidal, according to reports in the player’s native Chile.

United are widely reported to have bid for Vidal, but the latest suggestions are that Liverpool will also lodge an offer.

Real Madrid were previously thought to be United’s main competition for the 27-year-old, but apparently don’t have the funds after signing Toni Kroos and James Rodriguez.

Now Liverpool are ready to swoop to offer Vidal the option of Champions League football away from Juve next season.

They are set to bid £42.5m, claims newspaper El Mercurio.

Losing out to Liverpool for one of their top summer transfer target would be a major blow for United, although the sudden interest from Anfield appears to have come out of the left-field somewhat.

But the Chilean reports indicate that the player is open to the idea of a move to the Reds.

He will be our new midfield enforcer….Stevie G needs a breather once in a while and we will still get the best out of him

My word , this Vidal is a power player . Liverpool can take him as their marquee signing .Very impressive talent .

Heard Fenway Sports is willing to offer 350K per week salary after tax. FSG and Brendan are also said to have told Juventus that they can pay 60M pounds if they want.

Not a chance he’s heading to Liverpool.. These Chile reports are sensational claims!. Pure speculation. No way would Liverpool out bid United or Real. The only way that Liverpool would get Vidal is if he wanted to move to Anfield, and tell me why would he move to Anfield ahead of Real Madrid or United?

Daily Mail and Daily Mirror are also said to be speculating that FSG is planning to offer Messi 1M a week and are willing to pay 400 Million pounds to Barca to secure his services.

Liver pool too small to compete with MAN U, Liverpool struggled for years and was only opportune to get to 2nd position in the EPL. MAN U has maintained a remarkable position as champions overtime and will continue, not withstanding the challenges encountered at the moment. I understand that we do not have world class defenders and massively need to be offensive upfront with energetic bones and speed if we have to compete this season with our rivals. Champions do not give up even when they are being knocked down, their character is there strength and that is what we do in MAN U.
