Arsenal given boost in chase for Sporting Lisbon’s William Carvalho
Arsenal have been handed a boost in their attempts to land sought-after star William Carvalho with Sporting Lisbon reducing their fee, according to reports.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has admitted the club will not be signing any more strikers before the window shuts but remains keen on a defensive midfielder and centre-back.
Sporting have refused all offers for Carvalho so far, with Arsenal already having a £20m offer rejected by the Portuguese side.
The Portugal international, who has been tracked by Liverpool and Manchester United, has a £35m release clause in his contract.
But with the club now open to cashing in, Sporting are now willing to accept a £24.5m offer along with a player, O Jogo reports.
The sudden change of policy could allow Arsenal to pounce before the window shuts.
Sporting are said to be keen on either Serge Gnabry or Yaya Sanogo but will also consider other attractive options.
