Door open for Liverpool and Arsenal in chase for Gonzalo Higuain
The door has been left open for Liverpool and Arsenal in the chase for Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain after the player’s agent and brother revealed there had been no contact from Barcelona.
Higuain was heavily linked with a move to Arsenal last summer before a move to Napoli for £32.5m from Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is still keen on bringing in another striker to support Olivier Giroud, while Liverpool are looking at possible replacements to fill the massive void left by Luis Suarez’s departure.
The Argentina striker had an impressive debut season in Serie A, scoring 24 goals in all competitions.
The 26-year-old, available at £80m due to a buy-out clause, was linked with a return to La Liga with Barcelona but those rumours have now been quashed.
“We have had no contact with the Barcelona directors, nor the coach,” Nicolas Higuain said. “The links with Barcelona are like in a film, there is nothing real about it.”
