AC Milan are in talks with Liverpool over the transfer of controversial striker Mario Balotelli for £14m, according to reports in Italy.
Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers sparked rumours of an impending deal ahead of their International Champions Cup match when he lavished praise on the fiery Italian in his press conference.
Now Sports Mediaset claim the player’s agent Mino Raiola is in talks with the Premier League club to discuss wages after his price tag has drastically reduced over the summer.
Milan CEO Adriano Galliani had said Balotelli was “99.999 per cent” likely to stay, but such proclamations have been shown to be empty on previous occasions.
The Rossoneri aim to use the money from the transfer and reinvest it in Torino winger Alessio Cerci, who is also a target for AS Monaco.
Balotelli has found life in Italy tougher than at Manchester City with him becoming embroiled in a raft of rows with the media who criticised his attitude and poor performances.
“I made a mistake bringing Mario back to Italy,” Raiola said after the World Cup exit.
