‘Lads it’s only Spurs’…Roy Keane reveals Alex Ferguson’s best Man Utd team-talk
Roy Keane has revealed Alex Ferguson’s funniest team-talk for Manchester United came against Tottenham – a club who endured one of the worst records against the Red Devils under the imperious Scot.
The Irishman has been critical of his former boss for the observations he made in his book after he called time on his managerial career nearly 18-months ago.
But in a rare break from his tirade against Ferguson, the now Aston Villa and Republic of Ireland assistant boss found time to reflect humourously on the former manager’s time at the Old Trafford helm – with the briefest of pre-match speeches against Spurs standing out.
“I thought I knew what the group might need, that we didn’t need a big team talk,” Keane recounted.
“It was Tottenham at home. I thought, please don’t go on about Tottenham, we all know what Tottenham is about, they are nice and tidy but we’ll f**king do them.
“He came in and said: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’, and that was it. Brilliant.”
United won the match.
