Bayern Munich winger Xherdan Shaqiri has admitted that he wanted to join Liverpool in the summer.
The Switzerland international says that the Bundesliga champions blocked his switch to Anfield against his wishes.
Asked specifically about a bid from Liverpool, he told Swiss tabloid Blick: “It was known that I wanted to do something in the summer.
“After the World Cup I felt that it would be better for me to try something new. I thought of a change and had a lot of requests.
“Then FC Bayern decided that I must remain and should stay. In that case, you cannot do much as a player.
“But I feel very good in Munich, too.”
But the 23-year-old then admits that Bayern’s decision came as a blow, given that Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are still ahead of him in the pecking order.
He added: “It was certainly a big disappointment for me, because I knew it would not be easy.”
