Liverpool and Manchester United scouts had a disappointing trip to Benfica’s Champions League clash with Bayer Leverkusen yesterday evening.
Unable to progress in the tournament, the Portuguese side rested several senior stars, which meant neither Liverpool or United got to see the players they were there to watch.
United were keeping tabs on midfielder Enzo Perez and attacking midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, while their rivals were hoping to see full-back Maxi Pereira, reports Portuguese newspaper O Jogo.
But all three of those players were left out of the squad.
There was better news for top-of-the-table Chelsea, who also had a scout at the Estadio da Luz last night.
They got to see half-an-hour of striker Anderson Talisca in action after he came off the bench. But the Brazilian starlet was unable to break the deadlock in a 0-0 draw.
