Robin van Persie set for £5m pay-off from Man Utd
Manchester United will pay Robin van Persie £5m to quit the club this summer, according to the Mail on Sunday.
Louis van Gaal’s side have thrived with the Dutchman absent through injury in recent weeks. After a poor season in general, Van Persie could now be ushered towards the Old Trafford exit.
The 31-year-old has 14 months to run on his contract. His £250,000-a-week wages are likely to be prohibitive to a lot of prospective suitors, including Inter Milan, Juventus and Lazio, who are all name-checked in the article.
To compensate for an inevitable shortfall in his wages, the Dutchman will reportedly be offered a £5m golden handshake. That would equate to half of a £10m loyalty bonus that Van Persie would pocket by seeing out the four-year contract he signed when he arrived from Arsenal in the summer 2012 transfer window.
United would use the freed up space on their wage bill to invest in a new striker, the report suggests.
