Mauricio Pochettino confirms Roberto Soldado is in his plans, reveals who is not
Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has revealed that Roberto Soldado is in his plans for the coming season despite being heavily linked with a move away.
The Argentine also revealed there is no way back for Emmanuel Adebayor or Aaron Lennon, suggesting his comments on the Spanish flop are credible.
The 30-year-old has been linked with Villarreal an Sevilla with a deal thought to be close with the former.
The move is likely to appeal to Soldado too, who was a prolific striker in La Liga before his move to Spurs where he has consistently struggled and looked a pale imitation of himself.
He scored just 11 goals in his debut campaign – six in the Premier League, though only two from open play. But he only managed five in all competitions last season.
Soldado has two years left on his contract but is keen to rescue his career. He will be the fourth player to leave the club who was signed with the Gareth Bale money if he does go.
But Pochettino has said he remains keen on the striker despite his troubles.
“Soldado is in my plans but he did not come here because there was a problem with his back – but he is in our plans,” the Mirror quoted him as saying.
Referring to Adebayor and Lennon, he was brutally clear. “They are not in my plans. They know the situation – we have spoken with them and it’s no problem,” he said.
