Video: Liverpool great Kevin Keegan on Jurgen Klopp
Former Liverpool striker Kevin Keegan has been appraising Jurgen Klopp’s impact on his former club.
Keegan, who played more than 200 games for the Reds between 1971 and 1977, says he thinks Klopp is the perfect fit at Anfield and said last weekend’s thrashing of Manchester City felt like the start of something.
He said the former Borussia Dortmund boss had brought the sort of football Liverpool fans want to see and more excitement than predecessor Brendan Rodgers.
Keegan said: “They took Manchester City apart – 4-1 and it could have been more – and you saw that game, and I think as an ex-Liverpool player, I thought, ‘is this the start now?’
“I mean, that’s the sort of football the Liverpool fans want to see Liverpool Football Club play. It wasn’t always the case under Brendan Rodgers. You know, it wasn’t always exciting enough. At home especially, they expect you to go after teams – you’re at home, this is Anfield, this is where we play, you don’t come here and get an easy time, we’re going to make it difficult for you.
“And I think Jurgen Klopp’s a perfect fit for Liverpool now because he has that sort of character that the fans can relate to. You see a goal go in, ‘yes’, he’s with the players. He looks to me like he’s a real players’ manager, you know, he’s with them.”
