Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho does not believe Cesc Fabregas is one of the ‘rats’ who betrayed him and considered the Spain international to be one of his closest allies at the club right up until the end of his tenure, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Blues fans have targeted Fabregas, along with team-mates Eden Hazard and Diego Costa, in the wake of Mourinho’s sacking last week, including by displaying banners branding the trio rats during Saturday’s win over Sunderland and booing Fabregas when he was substituted during the match.
But today’s report claims Mourinho saw Fabregas as a close ally even as he lost his job. The pair are said to have met personally twice in the hours before and after Mourinho’s sacking and have also exchanged numerous text messages since then.
The initial meeting had apparently been to discuss Fabregas’ pivotal role in Mourinho’s plan to save his job.
