Divock Origi injury update
The injury Liverpool striker Divock Origi sustained in this evening’s Merseyside derby might not be as bad as it first appeared.
The 21-year-old has reportedly only suffered a badly sprained ankle as a result the nasty tackle on him for which Everton’s Ramiro Funes Mori was red carded.
Funes Mori’s high, stamping challenge on Origi’s standing leg looked like it might have caused a break, serious ligament damage or both.
But according to Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler, speaking during the live broadcast of tonight’s game, the word from the tunnel is that Origi has only suffered a sprain.
While a bad sprain could still force him out of some important upcoming fixtures, it would be welcome news in comparison to what most onlookers will have feared when the Belgium international was stretchered off the Anfield pitch.
Origi will presumably undergo further scans to double-check his condition, but the early news is encouraging for the youngster.
He opened the scoring in tonight’s 4-0 derby win with his fifth goal in five games.
