For a striker few people outside Australia have heard of, being a genuine world record for scoring in international football is quite something. But Melbourne’s Victory’s Archie Thompson has just notched his second, 11 years after first entering the record books.

Thompson’s hat-trick for Australia against Guam this week, completed in just on 5 minutes after coming on in the second half, appears to be the fastest ever by a substitute in an officially recognised international football match. Australia’s new footballing superstar Emile Heskey had been tipped for an England recall by his Newcastle Jets team-mate Michael Bridges.

The former Sunderland and Leeds (and lots of other clubs) striker reckons Heskey can still offer Andy Carroll some stiff competition for the role of England shire horse. read more »

There were some raised eyebrows when Emile Heskey made the decision to move to the Australian A-League after his release from Aston Villa. In truth, the move always looked a good idea, firstly because the standard of football there is lower than the Premier League, but also because in England he had almost turned into a joke figure, which is slightly harsh for a player that has been picked by four different England managers. read more »

Former England striker Emile Heskey has been unveiled as the marquee signing of Newcastle Jets in Australia’s A-League this season.
