Hoyte-y toity

The undoubted highlight of Sunderland’s extra-time FA Cup victory over local rivals Middlesbrough last night was this bizarre slide tackle on Boro defender Justin Hoyte from a pitch invader.

A couple of morons ran onto the pitch. One of them lost his footing behind Hoyte and ended up sliding through the back of him with the sort of challenge that’s liable to get you a red card these days.

This proves yet again that pitch invaders still haven’t learnt their lesson about the need to wear studs to the match if they’re planning on running around on the playing surface.

Aston Villa and England star Stewart Downing was forced to give us an interesting insight into how a Premier League player spends his wages in court yesterday. Downing was asked to talk about his spending habits hile giving evidence against his former agent Ian Elliott.
