Stoke took the lead against Spurs in Sunday’s early Premier League kick off as the away side looked to keep alive their top four hopes, but Tottenham pegged back Stoke in bizarre fashion.
A long ball was played over the top for Gareth Bale to chase, and Asmir Begovic made the decision to come charging out of his goal.
However, Stoke had defensive cover, and when a sliding clearance fell to Clint Dempsey, the Bosnian goalkeeper was caught off his line.
It still took a rather majestic finish from the American, who used his weaker foot to lob the ball into an unguarded net. Time seem to slow down as Stoke fans fell into amazed silence, with some fans caught not even watching the action.
Last week’s game at West Ham went by without picking up points, and although Wigan created the odd chance, they deserved to get nothing from the game. The problem with everyone stating that Wigan “always pick up points at the end of the season” is that it actually has to happen. read more »
Stoke striker Peter Crouch’s toothless performances in front of goal are because he has three less teeth than at the start of the season.
That’s according to Potters boss Tony Pulis. He reckons the 6ft 7in striker’s collision with Newcastle defender Fabricio Coloccini last November is the cause of his loss of form. read more »
Kevin Mirallas has gained something of a reputation as a ‘no end product’ merchant, but yesterday he very much hit the heights with a wonderful solo goal to give his Everton side victory over Stoke at Goodison.
I want to use the technical phrase here, but Mirallas tore Ryan Shawcross a new one before slotting the ball past the goalkeeper. read more »
