Jeff’s geography lessons
Soccer Saturday presenter and all-round legend Jeff Stelling had a momentary blip on Saturday when he seemed to suggest that Crewe was an independent country. As far as we were aware, the Cheshire town was still part of the United Kingdom but it sounds like Jeff has bestowed independence upon it.
He said: “Millwall have had a great start to the season domestically, but they are not doing so well today against Crewe.”
We thought Crewe were a domestic side for Millwall, but we bow to Jeff’s superior knowledge.
Nottingham Forest scored one of the biggest shocks of Saturday’s FA Cup third round fixtures as they defeated Manchester City at Eastlands. Mark Hughes’ multi-millionaire side went down 0-3 as Forest cruised into the fourth round.
Leeds starlet does his best to scupper Premier League move
Over the last four transfer-less months a name that has been omnipresent in the gossip columns has been that of Leeds United youngster Fabian Delph. It seemed every mid-table Premier League manager and his dog were interested in signing the England Under 21 winger.

Fulham, Sunderland and Newcastle are among the teams reportedly prepared to part with £5 million to secure Delph’s services. It has now emerged that he was arrested and charged with drink driving just before Christmas and has a court appearance to make next month.

Geordie boy and former Newcastle player Clark took the not-very-well beaten track to Sunderland. But he was still a Newcastle lad at heart, and attended the 1999 FA Cup final wearing a t-shirt bearing the slogan Sad Mackem Bastards. Strangely he never played for Sunderland again…
You just don’t get this sort of impartial reporting anywhere else! Jeff Stelling leads the Soccer Saturday team in a chorus of I Got You (I Feel Good) to celebrate James Brown’s late winner for Hartlepool United yesterday. He then reveals that the singing puppet he once famously used to celebrate Brown’s goals has been in mothballs during his recent goal drought.
A reminder of the puppet in action after the jump… Read more »
