FA’s disgraceful decision not to punish Chris Morgan for Iain Hume injury pushes Barnsley towards the courts

FA let someone else clean up the mess

Chris Morgan, the Sheffield United defender who put Barnsley’s Iain Hume in hospital with a fractured skull, has escaped further censure for the incident. Morgan’s flying elbow left Hume fighting for his life but the FA says it cannot take any action.

An FA spokesman said: “The FA has been given express direction from Fifa that we cannot upgrade yellow cards to red. On that basis, we can only bring additional charges in the most exceptional cases and only if it can be proved beyond doubt that the actions of a player were a deliberate attempt to injure an opponent. Having reviewed all available evidence in this case, including submissions made by Barnsley, there is no basis on which an additional charge could be brought.”

Ian Wright is Ian Wrong over Didier Drogba incident

Ex-Arsenal striker has the arguing skills of a six-year old

Award-winning journalist Ian Wright has used his column in The Sun to spring to the defence of Chelsea coin-thrower Didier Drogba. The former England international claims: “Didier Drogba could have been blinded or even killed by the Burnley morons who pelted him with coins the other night. So what action will be taken against those scumbags who are probably sitting down the pub right now bragging about it to their mates?”

That’s fantastic, Ian. Yes, we realise that, but we have continued the thought process a bit further and reached the stage where we are able to conclude that an innocent Burnley fan “could have been blinded or even killed” by the Chelsea moron who pelted them with a coin the other night.

Hope you get there soon, Wrighty. Should make for an excellent column some time next week.

Why Arsenal need a touch of Honest Harry from Arsene Wenger

Harry Redknapp is one of the least ‘Arsenal’ football managers in the game. Arsenal and Harry Redknapp are like polar opposites, which is probably one reason why he is making such a good Tottenham manager thus far. Redknapp, while more than holding his own in the modern game, is essentially a throwback to a bygone era. Arsene Wenger is (usually) far to composed to give anywhere near as much away as the new Spurs boss.

Think Wenger and you think loyal lawyer - studious, happy to have a war of words but unlikely to take it to blows, fiercely defensive of his players and mysteriously blind when he knows they have pushed it too far. This approach has had its benefits over the course of Wenger’s hugely successful stint in England, but this season has shown some drawbacks to the method.

Real Madrid re-open the Cristiano Ronaldo saga

Schust your mouth!

There are two main reasons why I know that the world of football is very quiet at the moment. One is that I write about football on a daily basis and, international match preparation/fall-out aside, there has been very little news compared to our normal bombardment for the past week. The second reason is that the Cristiano Ronaldo to Real Madrid speculation has started once again.

After the tiring marathon of a transfer saga in the summer, you could have been forgiven for thinking you were now safe until at least January but apparently not. So who is the no good hack dragging this all up again because he has nothing better to write? It is none other than Bernd Schuster.
