Former England under-21 international Leroy Lita was handed an £80 fixed penalty notice after being arrested for being drunk and disorderly. The Middlesbrough striker, aged 25, was taken to a police station after getting into an altercation with uniformed officers on a night out in Newcastle.

How to get lynched at the Riverside
In a gag that could easily have backfired, Top Gear presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May bounded onto the pitch at half-time in Middlesbrough’s match against Nottingham Forest wearing Newcastle shirts.

Going down… in price at least
1. Michael Owen
The ultimate bargain buy. He always looked likely to leave Newcastle at the end of the season, and he definitely will now. Don’t believe the talk that he is past it - if he manages an injury-free pre-season and is playing in a decent side, he will still [...]

1. Newcastle weren’t too good to go down after all. But I think relegation might benefit the club long-term. Mike Ashley will have to drop his price and might find a buyer, a lot of the deadwood will want to leave the club, and some of the youngsters will be given the opportunity to prove [...]
