Harry Redknapp backs out of controversial substitution
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was forced to scrap a planned substitution in Friday night’s FA Cup win against Wigan amid fears the swap would disrupt his side’s momentum. Hossam Ghaly has not played for the club since throwing a tantrum (and his shirt) when substituted by Martin Jol in a match against Blackburn in May 2007.
s Sol Campbell will testify, the White Hart Lane faithful are not the most forgiving folks, and last night they showed Ghaly that he was still in their bad books. Ordered by Redknapp to strip off his tracksuit for a 10-minute comeback appearance, Ghaly faced a barrage of boos as he waited to join the action. Bayern Munich and Germany left-back Philipp Lahm was the star performer on Germany’s Stars in der Manege as he became a magician’s assistant for the day, much to the amusement of an onlooking Bastian Schweinsteiger. Watch and ponder just how the motorised device doesn’t cut Lahm to shreads (this one won’t require Jonathan Creek to solve!).
Today’s papers are full of stories that Stoke players Andy Griffin and Ricardo Fuller have kissed and made up after their very public spat against West Ham. In an interview with Sky Sports Fuller seemed a little more circumspect. He claimed that Griffin had been “very rude and disrepectful” towards him. He added: “What he said was bad, but what I did was worse.”
The real heart-rending moment comes as Fuller discusses his passion for Stoke and football. [Cue violins] he said: “I give my all for Stoke all the time. maybe I give too much, and maybe that’s why I’m in this position now because I always try to do so much for football and for Stoke City.”

Liverpool star in hot water over nightclub incident
Steven Gerrard has been charged with assault and affray over a glass-throwing incident in a Southport nightclub. The Liverpool skipper and five other men were arrested after a fight broke out which left a 34-year-old DJ with facial injuries. He has been bailed to appear before magistrates on 23 January.
