Premier League weekend in numbers
Wolves have done it, Chelsea’s foreign legion, and an England statistic to remember
22 – They did it. After 22 games in all competitions without one, Wolves finally kept a clean sheet yesterday
0 – Although they threatened too for a while at St James’, Liverpool have still not gained a single point from a losing position this season
46 – Saturday was the first time in 46 PL games that Manchester City have scored more than two goals without Carlos Tevez scoring. Might have to get used to it
49 – Number of seconds between Blackburn equalising and Bolton regaining the lead. Sam will not be happy
27 – None of Chelsea’s last 27 Premier League goals have been scored by Englishmen
18 – The number of draws in Marh Hughes’ last 28 games as a manager. Has to be under pressure
10 – After 167 games of this Premier League season, ten teams still have one away win or fewer
257 – Critical night for Wayne Rooney. It is 257 days since he scored from open play for Manchester United
And if you’re going to remember any facts, make it these two:
27 – These are the last ten strikers to be picked in England squads (Rooney, Cole, Agbonlahor, Carroll, Crouch, Bent, Defoe, Zamora, Davies, Bothroyd). Of the 454 goals scored in the Premier League this season, 27 have been by these ten (Bothroyd absolved of blame!). That’s just 5.9% of PL goals
4 – If you take out Darren Bent, Andy Carroll and Kevin Davies, who have just four international starts between them, the rest have scored four PL goals between them. That’s 0.9%
0.9%!! I think that answers the discussion over the severity of England’s striker crisis.
